Mathematics

At Mrs Ethelston’s, we use the Abacus - Active Learn scheme of work to support us with our planning from Year 1 to Year 6. Pupils will develop their maths skills through a range of fluency questions before ensuring they have a deeper understanding of their knowledge through reasoning and problem solving style questions. Maths work is differentiated to ensure all learners are able to engage with the learning tasks set and are challenged appropriately to extend their knowledge. Maths is taught daily with a ‘Find it out Friday’ session specifically planned each week to allow the children to work alongside a peer to use their learning from the week to solve a more challenging investigation.
